Preparing for your podiatrist consult visit can help you make the most out of your appointment while ensuring that all your concerns are addressed. We are here to help you create your patient checklist!

Before your visit, gather all necessary information regarding your medical history and current medications. This can include any previous injuries or surgeries, chronic illnesses, and allergies. Make a list of questions or concerns you have to make sure you don’t forget anything during the consultation.

  • Make a list of your symptoms and questions
  • If your problem involves walking and/or exercise, bring your walking/exercise shoes with you to the appointment.
  • Gather and bring important medical records and laboratory test reports from other doctors or hospitals (including X-rays, MRIs, and lab results).

During your visit, be prepared to discuss your symptoms in detail with the podiatrist. Be honest about any pain or discomfort you may be experiencing and how long it has been going on. The doctor may perform a physical examination of the affected area as well as order diagnostic tests like X-rays or MRIs. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if there is something you don’t understand.

When you are done with your visit, try the following:

  • Prepare for any tests your podiatrist orders.
  • Ask about what you need to do to get ready, possible side effects, and when you can expect results.
  • Ask when and how the test results will be made available to you.
  • Schedule any necessary follow-up appointments as recommended before you leave your podiatrist’s office.
  • Call and follow up with the  office and ask for your test results if you do not hear from them within the week.

Whether it’s for yourself or your loved ones, being proactive and advocating for for your health or your loved ones is encouraged and appreciated by youor podiatry physician or surgeon.
