Education and Research
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Thakkar developed a strong interest in neuroscience, medical research and patient care. During and after her undergraduate education, she dedicated six years to multidisciplinary research. That experience continues to influence the thoughtful and evidence-based approach she brings to every patient evaluation and treatment recommendation.
Dr. Thakkar graduated with distinction from the Honors College at the University of Illinois Chicago, earning a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. She then earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
Advanced Foot and Ankle Surgical Training
Following podiatric medical school, Dr. Thakkar completed a comprehensive three-year residency in podiatric medicine and surgery with reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Saint Joseph Health System in Indiana. She served as chief resident during her final year.
Her residency provided extensive medical and surgical training in:
- Reconstructive foot, rearfoot and ankle surgery
- Minimally invasive foot and ankle procedures
- Bunion and hammertoe surgery
- Sports-related foot and ankle injuries
- Diabetic foot care and limb preservation
- Foot and ankle trauma
- Ankle arthroscopy
- Elective foot surgery
- Conservative and regenerative treatment options
This broad training allows Dr. Thakkar to evaluate foot and ankle problems comprehensively. She begins by identifying the underlying cause of a patient’s pain or mobility limitation and considers nonsurgical care whenever appropriate. When surgery is necessary, she explains the available options, expected recovery and how treatment can support the patient’s functional goals.
A Personalized Approach to Foot and Ankle Care
Dr. Thakkar believes patients should feel heard, informed and confident in their care. She takes time to explain diagnoses in clear language, answer questions and involve patients in every treatment decision.
She considers each person’s work responsibilities, exercise routine, health history, family commitments and desired level of activity. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include activity modification, orthotics, advanced nonsurgical treatment, regenerative medicine, minimally invasive procedures or reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.
Her goal is to provide the least invasive appropriate treatment while helping each patient achieve meaningful and lasting improvement.
Proud to Serve the Austin Community
Dr. Thakkar has a lifelong connection to Austin, where she spent summers making memories with her family. She is excited to now call Austin home and care for patients from Central Austin and surrounding communities.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Thakkar enjoys swimming, dancing, cooking with her husband and spending quality time with friends and family.
